Luke O’Hagen is the co-creator and voice behind Surf and Science. A high school student at Ranney School and a varsity soccer player, Luke has always found his greatest sense of calm at the beach. He grew up by the ocean and started surfing at just four years old, forming a strong connection to the water. Surfing has helped him feel focused, grounded, and emotionally balanced—especially during busy or overwhelming times.

Being one of four kids, Luke’s vacations are often centered around water activities, and he has surfed in many places, including New Jersey, Florida, San Diego, Costa Rica, Hawaii, Spain, and the Maldives. That personal connection inspired him to explore the science behind Blue Mind. Through research, experience, and diverse perspectives, Luke hopes to show that calm, strength, and connection can start with something as simple as being near the water.

Co-creator Dylan Kozinn is an avid surfer and ocean lover. Currently a junior in high school, she participates in both the surf team and swim team. Competitive surfing plays a major role in her life, giving her opportunities to travel, surf new places, and meet like-minded people who become lifelong friends.

Growing up near the water and learning to surf at age 7 helped shape the beach into a safe space—somewhere she can clear her mind, regulate emotions, and feel connected to nature. Curious about the peaceful feeling water creates, she decided to dive deep into the meditative state known as Blue Mind. Through research, personal experience, and other people’s stories, Dylan hopes to highlight how water supports mental wellness and encourages others to explore that same calm.
